Qualifications:

The ability to teach in both the fixed and movable-do solfège systems is essential; keyboard skills, and facility with computer technology and its applications to the aural skills and theory fields are also required. Applicants should be aware that the position is in the first instance a teaching position and contains no expectations for research, although we do require that ATS instructors keep current in developments in their field of expertise. Applicants will have a PhD in Music Theory or be near completion by the appointment date, and have relevant teaching experience.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Department of Music at the University of Alberta invites applications for a full-time continuing Lecturer in Theory and Aural Skills. We are looking for a dynamic teacher to teach courses in our core undergraduate theory and aural skills sequence (tonal and post-tonal), and to contribute to the coordination of the core music theory curriculum. Additional responsibilities include supervision of graduate Teaching Assistants and Principal Instructors for teaching aural and keyboard skills, or responsibilities assigned by the department Chair.

In accordance with the Academic Teaching Staff agreement (ATS), this position offers a comprehensive benefits package which can be viewed at http://www.hrs.ualberta.ca/MyEmployment/Agreements.aspx Salary for this continuing Career Status Faculty Lecturer position is based on the Assistant Professor scale and will be commensurate with education and experience.
