Institution: University of Utah Position: Assistant Professor General Information: Tenure Track Start date: July 1, 2018 THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC ANNOUNCES A FULL-TIME TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN MUSIC THEORY Qualifications: Qualifications include: (1) An earned doctorate or ABD in music theory, or equivalent experience in music theory research; (2) publication of scholarly, original, peer-reviewed research or evidence of the potential for the publication of scholarly, original, peer-reviewed research for recent recipients of the doctorate; (3) teaching experience in music theory at the college level; (4) excellent classroom keyboard skills; (5) demonstrated experience and effectiveness with instructional technologies. The successful candidate must have a commitment to high-quality undergraduate and graduate instruction, and ability or potential to teach and mentor a diverse student body. We are seeking a resourceful, creative, innovative, and accomplished music theorist who demonstrates every promise of attaining professional distinction, as defined in our Retention, Tenure, and Promotion guidelines http://music.utah.edu/faculty/resources.php Job Description/Responsibilities: Duties include: (1) Establish a notable professional career as a music theorist with continuing growth and national/international visibility; (2) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music theory according to curricular needs and the candidate’s abilities/expertise, such as undergraduate theory courses in diatonic harmony, form & analysis, and 20th/21st century styles & techniques, as well as courses at the graduate level, such as analysis, pedagogy of music theory, and others, as needed; (3) supervise undergraduate final projects and graduate theses and dissertations, and promote the graduate music theory program; (4) advise undergraduate and graduate music theory majors; (5) contribute to the coordination and advancement of the core music theory curriculum; (6) participate on committees, including doctoral supervisory committees; and (7) perform other appropriate college, university, and professional service.
