Institution: Grand Valley State University Position: Assistant Professor of Music Theory Qualifications: Required Qualifications and Education: Grand Valley State University, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a 9 month, full-time, tenure track position in the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance beginning August 6th, 2019. The successful candidate will be conversant in contemporary music theory pedagogy while demonstrating the ability to effectively teach at the undergraduate level in the areas of written and aural music theory. The successful candidate will have begun developing a national reputation in their area of expertise through ongoing research and publication in the music theory field. The successful candidate must have either completed a Ph.D. in music theory or have achieved ABD status. Please note, ABD will be considered for a two year contract with provision that your Ph.D. must be completed by December 2020. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated teaching success at the undergraduate level in music theory and aural theory courses. Job Description/Responsibilities: Primary duties will include: Teaching of the Music Theory/Aural Perception sequence for undergraduates and additional upper-level courses as needed. Maintaining active creative work in music theory via research and publication in appropriate journals, engagement with current pedagogical practices, and presentation at national and international conferences. Coordinating and advising student Music Forum with music theory emphasis. Completion of all service requirements expected of a tenure track faculty member. Salary Range: Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
