Institution: University of Lethbridge

Position: Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts

Job Description/Responsibilities:

As the incoming Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, what will you add to the University of Lethbridge? Practiced administrative skills, yes. Inspiring leadership, certainly. As Dean, you must also demonstrate a keen appreciation of the creative arts and their application to liberal education. But what will identify you as the new Dean will be a bold and crystallized vision of what’s possible for the Faculty and how to get it there.

The University of Lethbridge is one of Canada’s top-ranked comprehensive universities and leading research institutions. Alberta’s “Destination University”, the University of Lethbridge attracts more than 8,700 undergraduate and graduate students from around the world to its campuses in Lethbridge and Calgary each year. It offers more than 150 undergraduate and 60 graduate programs in Fine Arts, Arts & Science, Education, Health Sciences, Liberal Education, Graduate Studies and in the Dhillon School of Business. The University of Lethbridge fosters an environment that supports its students through excellent teaching, exposure to creative activity, research and interaction with professors, instructors and academic advising, as well as cultural, recreational and extracurricular programs.

Positioned at the center of the University, the Faculty of Fine Arts has also established a strong community presence in downtown Lethbridge. The Faculty is a key component of a University that is looking to shape research, creative activity and learning opportunities for generations to come.

The Faculty of Fine Arts offers a comprehensive education that positions its students as change makers and future leaders. As Dean, you will lend strategic insight to the University’s senior management team and energise your Faculty with charismatic and collaborative leadership. Working with your faculty members, you will support and sustain an environment that enables your students to find and develop their voices as artists and individuals. Work with the community to increase financial support, co-op opportunities and career options. Engage the artistic community in their own terms. Be an expert listener as a basis for creating or fine tuning innovative academic programming and interdisciplinary initiatives. Be a progressive administrator and sound financial steward as you work with stakeholders to set priorities and manage and grow the Faculty’s human and financial resources.

In addition to your academic and artistic credentials, you have led a large team, planned and implemented visionary programs and inspired students to fully realize their potential and be their best. As a champion of Fine Arts with the University of Lethbridge, you will innovate, collaborate and celebrate at centre stage.

At the University of Lethbridge, fostering a culture of inclusion is an institutional imperative. The University invites and encourages applications from all qualified individuals, including from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in employment, who may contribute to further diversification of our institution. In accordance with Canadian Immigration requirements, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given preference.
