Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Department of Music at Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applications from early-career music theorists for the Postdoctoral Theory Teaching Fellowship. The appointment begins July 1, 2019 with classes beginning at the end of August. The Theory Teaching Fellow will teach a four course load (two courses per semester), consisting of three introductory music theory courses and one course that focuses on the history of music after 1600 and which can be used to satisfy one music history course requirement for majors and minors. Interdisciplinary, critical, and/or non-canonical approaches to the history course are welcome. We desire candidates with experience with and/or interest in working in a multicultural environment and encouraging excellence from students with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

The Fellow will be expected to participate in departmental outreach to first- and second-year students, students from underrepresented/marginalized groups, and prospective majors and minors, and to contribute to an innovative, inclusive, diverse undergraduate theory and aural skills sequence. The fellowship includes a competitive salary and benefits, a conference travel stipend, and formalized mentoring from a tenured music theorist faculty member.
