Institution: Vassar College Position: Adjunct Instructor General Information: The Department of Music at Vassar College invites applications to teach 4.5 undergraduate courses in music theory and music history during the 2019-20 academic year. Ideally, we would like one candidate who can teach all of these courses. But depending on the applicant’s area expertise and availability, we are open to hiring two candidates to teach partial course loads. Depending on the number of courses taught (3 or more), this may be a benefits-eligible position. Qualifications: ABD, PhD, or DMA required. We seek an applicant with an affinity for working with both music majors and non-majors. College teaching experience in a liberal arts setting is strongly preferred. Job Description/Responsibilities: FALL SEMESTER: > MUSI 248: “Music and Ideas III - Modernism and its Challenges†(late nineteenth through twentieth century music history) SPRING SEMESTER: > MUSI 101: “Fundamentals of Music†(for beginners with no previous musical background) > MUSI 106: “Music Theory II†(second semester for music majors; includes six-four chords, sequences, tonicization & modulation, chromaticism, phrase structures, and small forms) > Skills lab for MUSI 106 (sight singing [movable-do, do-based minor solfege], dictation, keyboard skills) (THIS IS A HALF-CLASS) > MUSI 180: Freshman writing seminar (on a musical topic of the instructor’s choosing) Salary Range: unspecified Items to Send: To apply, please submit a letter of interest and CV to Christine Howlett, Department Chair (contact info below) Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
