Assistant Professor of Composition

The UCR Department of Music is committed to promoting a broad range of intellectual perspectives in order to serve our highly diverse student body. In accordance with this mission, we seek a composer for a full-time, tenure track position for an Assistant Professor of Composition with an anticipated hire date of July 1, 2020. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or a DMA in composition. Applicants are expected to have a demonstrated track record of or potential for performances from nationally recognized organizations, ensembles, and/or performers. Previous college teaching experience and digital media skills are also desirable. We are particularly interested in individuals with a potential to carve out new and innovative paths of research, and who are interested in combining scholarship and performance in areas related to gender and queer studies. We encourage applications from composers who have an interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and in engaging critically with the ways in which music contributes to and is shaped by cultural differences. We also seek those whose work actively challenges established compositional narratives and genres.

Teaching duties include composition and music theory courses, graduate seminars, electives, composition forums and individual instruction of our undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty are expected to recruit and advise outstanding undergraduate and graduate students, maintain an active program of research and creative activity in music composition, and serve on both Department of Music and Academic Senate committees.
