NOTICE OF FACULTY VACANCY
POSITION: The Pennsylvania State University School of Music is seeking to fill a
position in music theory. The theory faculty in the School of Music work
collaboratively within a program of music history, theory, composition, and
technology. The School offers an M.A. in music theory, and M.A. in musicology,
an integrative M.A. in music theory and history, an M.M. in composition and
theory, a full complement of baccalaureate degrees, and a Ph.D. in music

DUTIES: Teach theory, analysis, and musicianship courses for undergraduate music
majors; teach graduate theory courses; direct graduate seminars on special

Serve as academic advisor to music majors. Participate in activities of the
School as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in music theory (ABD considered). Evidence of
successful teaching of theory at the university level and evidence of scholarly
productivity required.
STARTING DATE: Fall semester, 2005

POSITION TITLE Assistant Professor, Applied Trumpet and Music Theory
Belmont University seeks to fill a full time tenure-track position with primary
teaching responsibilities in applied trumpet and secondary teaching
responsibilities in music theory.
QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate should be highly qualified by training and experience to teach
applied instrumental music (trumpet) and related courses. Interest, training,
and experience in teaching music theory are essential. College teaching
experience in both areas is strongly preferred. An earned doctorate in a
relevant discipline is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach applied lessons and related courses in instrumental music (trumpet). Teach
courses in written and aural theory. Recruit and assist in providing leadership
for the instrumental program. Coordinate and perform with the faculty brass
ensemble. Maintain an appropriate program of performance and scholarship.
SALARY AND RANK
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits

MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OF NEWFOUNDLAND
TIER II (NSERC) CANADA RESEARCH CHAIR IN MUSIC TECHNOLOGY
The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and the School of Music at
Memorial University of Newfoundland invite applications for a Tier II (NSERC)
Canada Research Chair in the area of Music Technology. The Chair is expected to
develop a world-class, externally funded research program focusing on technology
needed to support applications in music. Candidates shall have an earned Ph.D.
degree in music technology or in electrical or computer engineering or a cognate
field. Candidates are expected to have a strong music background. The research
must be oriented toward innovative music applications; areas of focus may
include (but are not limited to): digital audio and video processing, networked
multimedia communications, human-computer interaction or acoustics.
The appointment will be tenure-track at the rank of Assistant or Associate
Professor with a joint appointment between the Faculty of Engineering and
Applied Science and the School of Music. In addition to the research program,
the Chair will participate in the academic programs of the Faculty of
Engineering and the School of Music, including teaching undergraduate and
graduate courses, and other educational, scholarly and professional activities.
The Chair is expected to build upon existing institutional strengths and to
foster collaboration with researchers involved in digital recording and
documentation, as well as applications of new and emerging technologies for
multi-venue performance and teaching.
The Electrical and Computer Engineering discipline has well-established
co-operative undergraduate programs in both Electrical Engineering and Computer
Engineering, and active graduate and research programs as well as ongoing
collaboration with local, national and international industry. The Faculty of
Engineering currently has four Canada Research Chairs in addition to several
externally-funded research Chairs. The School of Music offers comprehensive
programs in music at the undergraduate level with emerging graduate programs in
performance, pedagogy and conducting. The School of Music currently has one
Canada Research Chair. Early in 2005, it will inaugurate Petro-Canada Hall, a
state-of-the-art performance / rehearsal facility with advanced capabilities for
new applications of technology in music performance and pedagogy.

Position: Music Theory & French Horn. Tenure-track faculty position starting
August 2005.
Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate music theory, aural skills and
orchestration (course levels to be determined by applicant qualifications and
experience). Teach French Horn lessons (graduate and undergraduate), weekly
master class, and Brass I (horn portion seven weeks per semester). Perform with
faculty brass quintet.
Qualifications: Doctorate in Music required (candidates near completion will be
considered). Doctorate must be completed within eighteen months of hire for
consideration of continuance in the position. Advanced music theory degree
preferred. Prior teaching experience; excellent communication skills (both oral
and written); ability to teach, evaluate and advise students; and completion of
a successful on-campus interview which demonstrates the above, including a live
performance and teaching demonstration are required.
Essential Functions: Candidates must be able to teach Music Theory and French
Horn effectively.
