RANK:                    Assistant Professor
 
QUALIFICATIONS:          Completed Ph.D. in Music Theory.  Strong commitment to
                         undergraduate teaching at all levels, and to ongoing 
                         research and publication in area of specialization.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:        Teaching responsibilities may include: first and
                         second year music theory and ear training; upper
                         division counterpoint, and    
                         classic forms and styles; advanced Schenkerian
                         analysis; graduate seminars in area of
                         specialization, and thesis and
                         dissertation direction. 
 
 
APPOINTMENT DATE:       August 1996
 
INSTITUTION:       The Florida State University is a comprehensive
                   research institute of 16 colleges and schools with 1500
                   faculty serving a student body of 30,000.  The School of

WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY - New tenure-track position
	Teach general education/music appreciation courses (e.g. 
Genesis of Rock and Roll, Music Appreciation-Live, etc.) to large 
classes of non-majors.  Teach other courses as appropriate to 
background as well as needs of the School.  Lead faculty in 
developing technology-based instruction.  Develop new and 
innovative general education program.  Creative/scholarly 
activity and service appropriate for a university faculty 
member.  Doctorate or its demonstrable equivalent required.  
ABD with imminent completion date considered.  Evidence of 
research/publication or creative activity required.  Expertise in 
popular or vernacular music and a strong facility in technology 
(CD ROM, Computers, Synthesizers, Midi, multi-media, etc.) 
required.  The candidate must possess outstanding ability/record 
as a teacher in general education- music, preferably in classes 
with large enrollments.  Synthesizer keyboard facility highly 
desirable.  Rank:  commensurate with  qualifications and 
experience (tenure-track).  Salary commensurate with

theory at Bowling Green State University.  Bowling Green State

POSITION: Senior Lecturer in Ethnomusicology
INSTITUTION: Irish World Music Centre, University of Limerick, Ireland
QUALIFICATION: PhD in Ethnomusicology and experience of teaching at
               postgraduate level.
SPECIALTY: While any area-study specialisation will be welcomed, a proven
           interest in theory and method in Ethnomusicology is of
           importance in this instance. An interest in Ethnochoreology will
           also be an advantage.
DUTIES: While a special knowledge of Irish traditional music is not a
        requirement, a willingness to engage in the co-supervision of
        research students working in that area to doctoral level will be
        essential. The successful candidate, therefore, will be 
        concerned with the encouragement of the application of 
        ethnomusicological theory and method to Irish traditional music 
        studies

INSTITUTION: Irish World Music Centre, University of Limerick, Ireland
QUALIFICATION: PhD in Ethnochoreology with a specialisation in Irish
               Traditional Dance Studies.
SPECIALTY: Irish Traditional Dance Studies. A proven ability in Irish
           traditional dance performance and/or experience in the teaching
           of that dance form will be an advantage, as will academic and
           /or performance abilities in Irish traditional 
music.
DUTIES: The Assistant Lecturer in Ethnochoreology will teach Irish 
        Traditional Dance Studies/Ethnochoreology at postgraduate level, in 
        the first instance, and will work closely with the Ethnomusicology 
        and Irish Traditional Music Studies programmes within the Irish 
        World Music Centre. An interest in the application of theory and 
        method in ethnochoreology to Irish Traditional Dance Studies is 
        central to the post. A commitment to continued research activity 
        will be expected and supervision of research students to doctoral 
        level will be required.
